About the Artist

Hailing from Assam, India, Utpala Kalita, a trained Kathak dance luminary, embodies the art's essence through her transfusive skills. Guided by eminent maestros, Pt. Arjun Mishra and Padmavibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj, she has mastered the form. A Khairagarh University scholar, she completed her master's and Visharad from Bhatkhande Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya, and an 8-year diploma from Kalashram Delhi under her Guru Padmavibhushan Pt. Birju Maharaj.

 

Assimilating traditional art, regional culture, and creative lessons, Utpala shines as a shining representative of Lucknow Gharana, acclaimed for her expressive Abhinava. Her grace has enhanced many prestigious festivals including Agra Taj Mahotsav, the 48th Khajuraho Dance Festival, Vasant Utsav Delhi, Purana Qila Dance Festival Delhi, Commonwealth Games 2010,  Chakradhar Dance Festival Chhattisgarh and, International Film Festival Goa. She's enriched the dance world through workshops and collaborations and has worked with her guru in the production of a number of dance dramas like Kathak Yatra, Vasavadatya Astanayika, Pujarini, Romeo & Juliet, and many more.

This art, a journey of meditation in motion, shall resonate across time, nurturing the desire for a healthy, harmonious existence.
